This first job is to help us get to know you and see if we are a good fit to work together. It should probably only take about 1-2 hours to complete. We will PAY you for your time! Please pay close attention to our File Name Conventions. File Naming is SUPER important! So, you have to be perfectly meticulous with these details. Make sure there is no white space in your file names. Pay attention to our use of Uppercase Letters vs. lowercase letters.

One of our mantras (or mottos) is "Content is King, but QUALITY MATTERS!"

Overview

  1. You will create a collection of files:
    1. Audio
    2. Video
    3. Text
    4. PDF
    5. Google Sheet
  2. Put all the Files in a single Folder
    • Make sure you name the Folder and all the Files perfectly
  3. Upload the files to our Dropbox account

Create Files

Speed Test

  1. Run SpeedTest
  2. Take a screenshot of the results
  3. Name the image file YYYY-MM-DD-YourName-SpeedTest
    • Example: 2021-12-19-Bruce-Tambling-SpeedTest.jpg
    • Example: 2021-12-19-Bruce-Tambling-SpeedTest.png
    • No whitespace in file names
      • Use hyphens
      • Pay attention to our use of Uppercase Letters vs. lowercase letters

Record Audio Intro

Record your voice saying this very slowly, so we know how to pronounce your name.

  1. "Hi! My name is _______."
  2. Then say your name again very SLOWLY
    "You can call me ______.
    "I live in _______. "
  3. Tell us your location, town, province
    "A little about me ________."
  4. Tell us about yourself!
  5. Edit the beginning and end so there is no dead time
    • If you are a musician or audio engineer, add some music to the intro or in the background!
  6. Save as MP3 audio file (not WAV, AIFF, M4A or any other audio file type)
  7. Name the MP3 file YYYY-MM-DD-YourName-Audio-Intro
    • Example: 2021-12-19-Bruce-Tambling-Audio-Intro.mp3
    • No whitespace in file names
      • Use hyphens
      • Pay attention to our use of Uppercase Letters vs. lowercase letters
  8. Make sure that you carefully listen to and CHECK the MP3
    • Check that it sounds good
    • Audio level not too low, noisy or distorted
    • Remove dead space at the beginning and end of the file
    • Quality Control is always important

Photos

Create and organize some photos of you and your environment

  1. Headshot - photo of your face
  2. Government ID Card
  3. Photos of Your Home Office
    1. Your Desk
    2. Computer Workstation
    3. Computer Monitor Screen(s)
  4. The outside of your home where you live and work
  5. A photo of you with your family, or classmates in school, or you doing something you LOVE!
    • Like walking in the park, riding your bike, playing video games or going shopping!
    • So we can get an idea of who you are!
  6. Save all the photos as JPG files (not PNG or any other file type)
  7. Name the JPG files YYYY-MM-DD-YourName-SeqNumber-Description
    1. -SeqNumber will be -01, -02, -03 so the files sort properly
    2. -Description will be to tell us WHAT is in the photo
  8. Your photo collection files will look something like this:

Record a short video of you introducing yourself to Bruce and Team

  1. Tell us about your specialty skills and experience
  2. Tell us why you want this job working to help create college level Music Technology Courses!
  3. Tell us why you are a good fit for this job
  4. If you are Video Editor:
    1. Add some of your photos as B-Roll to make it interesting
    2. Add title graphics and lower thirds if possible
    3. Add music if possible
  5. Save as MP4 video file (not M4A or any other video file type)
  6. Name the MP4 file YYYY-MM-DD-YourName-Audio-Intro
    • Example: 2021-12-19-Bruce-Tambling-Video-Intro.mp4
  7. Save the MP4
    • You will also submit this in the Dropbox folder

Upload Video To Your YouTube Channel

  1. Upload the video to your YouTube Channel
    • If you don't have a YouTube Channel, they are easy and free to setup
  2. Set the video to Unlisted
    • To protect your privacy
  3. You will share the YouTube page URL in your text document

Text Document

Text is one of the ways our Team communicates to each other. This step of the project is your opportunity to communicate to Bruce and the Team. Tell us about who you are. What are your dreams and aspirations? What inspires and excites you?

  1. Create a plain text file
    • File extension should be .txt
    • Not Rich Text format
  2. Write a brief introduction of who you are
    1. A little about your life
    2. What are your goals, dreams and plans?
    3. What is important to you?
    4. What are you BEST at?
    5. Include a little about your education and work experience
  3. Please answer these questions:

Google Sheet Equipment List

We want you to create a Google Sheet that documents the tools, hardware and software that you have. The more detailed the better! This is also an opportunity for you to show us your spreadsheet skills. Make it look beautiful! Include the exact technical details: Manufacture, Model Number, Version Numbers, cost etc.

  1. Edit Share settings to either
    • Anyone with the link can view

  2. Make every piece of equipment, hardware and software, a separate Line Item in the Google Sheet.
    • Use separate Columns to indicate these details:
      • Column A: Manufacture
      • Column B: Product Name
      • Column C: Model or Version Number
      • Column D: Date Acquired
      • Column E: Value or Replacement Cost in Pesos
      • Column F: Value or Replacement Cost in US Dollars
  3. Create and format attractive headers (lines) for the different sections of the Google Sheet
    1. Top Header

  4. Include cells (formulas) that display
    1. Subtotal cost of the Hardware
    2. Subtotal cost of the Software
    3. Grand Total cost of all the Equipment

List All Your Software

The software installed on your computer that you know how to use. For example:

  1. Microsoft Office Suite (include version)
    1. Word (include version)
    2. Powerpoint etc.
  2. Adobe Photoshop (include version)
  3. Adobe Premiere Pro (include version)
  4. Avid Pro Tools (include version)
  5. TechSmith Camtasia (include version)
  6. FTP Client
    • If you don't have, get one!
  7. Whatever software you have!

Wish List

Dreaming in color, if money was no object, what new equipment would you buy? Add this list to the bottom or your Google Sheet. Organize the most important highest priority items at the top of the Wish List. In the side column(s) include a few words WHY you want or need this item and how would you use it? Include a cell (formula) that displays the total cost of all the Wish List items in Pesos and US Dollars.

Upload Your Files to Dropbox

  1. Put all of your files (audio, video, photos) in a Folder
  2. Create a Parent Folder
  3. Name the Folder YYYY-MM-DD-YourName-Intro
    • Example: 2021-12-19-Bruce-Tambling-Intro
  4. Create Subfolders for the various media types
  5. Name the Subfolders:
    1. YYYY-MM-DD-YourName-Audio
    2. YYYY-MM-DD-YourName-Video
    3. YYYY-MM-DD-YourName-Photos
    4. YYYY-MM-DD-YourName-Text
    5. YYYY-MM-DD-YourName-PDF
  6. Move your files into the appropriate Subfolder
  7. Doublecheck that all the file names are perfectly correct
  8. It is NOT necessary to compress the Folder into a ZIP file
  9. Upload your Parent Folder here:
